Dick Grace, Winemaker

Dick Grace and his wife, Ann, are the founders of Grace Family Vineyards, one of Napa Valley's earliest pioneers of limited-production, single-vineyard cabernet sauvignon. They settled in St. Helena with their three children, drawn by a passion for family, farming, and the land. In 1976, they planted a small, one-acre vineyard in front of their home in the celebrated Bosché clone and, unwittingly, laid the groundwork for what would become one of Napa's most iconic wines.

The 1978 vintage was released under the Caymus label as a single vineyard designate and quickly captured the attention of wine lovers and critics alike, commanding a loyal following. In 1983, the Graces brought winemaking in-house and introduced their own label, Grace Family Vineyards. With this release the concept of a "cult cabernet" was born, defined by small production, meticulous winemaking, and deeply expressive sense of place. Under the guidance of revered winemakers including Chuck Wagner and Heidi Barrett, the estate became widely recognized as a benchmark for harmony and balance and a true reflection of St. Helena terroir.

Beyond winemaking, Dick has long been known for his commitment to service and philanthropy, values that shaped the culture and purpose of Grace Family Vineyards. His belief that wine and community are inseparable helped position the winery, not only as a producer of exceptional cabernet, but also as a catalyst for meaningful charitable work around the world.

After over four decades of stewardship, Dick recognized the importance of passing the estate to a family who shared his values. Having formed a close bond with the Green family, he entrusted them with carrying Grace Family Vineyards into its next chapter. The Geens have carried on the Grace's legacy with a commitment to excellence and generosity.
