Bob Levy, Winemaker
Davis, Bob Levy had a very strong passion for fine wines. This zeal grew stronger
as he attended courses designed for Enology and Viticulture majors. The prospect
of pursuing a life in the field of winegrowing eventually won him over, and he
switched from a medical career to one in rooted in agriculture. After graduating
with a B.S. in Fermentation Sciences, he worked four harvests at Cuvaison
Winery. He was later presented with an opportunity at Rombauer Vineyards, where
he was hired to build-out and head up a new winery. This facility offered custom
winemaking services for various clients, including Merryvale Vineyards, one of
the early winegrowing endeavors of H. William Harlan.
Bob was ultimately lured away from Rombauer by Mr. Harlan's next undertaking,
Harlan Estate, established in 1984, where Bob became the founding winemaker.
Over the ensuing decades, the scope of his responsibilities within the Harlan family
domain expanded to include leading roles at BOND, Promontory, and The Napa
Valley Reserve. Today, Levy remains the Director of Winegrowing at The Napa
Valley Reserve and continu
